Ethics and Confidentiality

Abstract

Topic Initiated: Spring Collaborative 2018

The Federal government created confidentiality laws to protect patient information under the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) of 1996, which all federally assisted addiction treatment centers must follow. Alumni programs need to abide by their facility’s confidentiality and privacy guidelines and protect the privacy of their alumni when interacting with them.
